Around & About

The parish of Mitton lies on the periphery of The Forest of Bowland, nationally known as ‘An Area of Outstanding Beauty’. One of Mother Nature’s most beautiful and better equipped playgrounds and indeed her best kept secrets.

It boasts a landscape of stunning scenery with ever changing moods. Wild heather moorlands cut through by deep lush river valleys, dotted with charming and unspoilt villages.

Whether it’s walking, cycling, fishing, mountain biking, bird watching or simply relaxing there are few better places to be.

On our rear terrace are magnificent views of the passing River Ribble and Pendle Hill provides the backdrop to our gardens at the front of the hall. Exploration of this wonderful part of the world really does start on our doorstep.

The picturesque village of Whalley just over a mile away is thriving with shops, galleries, tea rooms and puns. Also home to Whalley Abbey a large and important Cistercian Abbey dating back to 1296 visitors can view the protected ancient monument.

Equally as historic and only slightly further a field is the historic market town of Clitheroe and its dramatic castle. Avoiding mass commercial development this historic town is adorned with a variety of shops and offers visitors a truly unique atmosphere.

One of these retail outlets is a property that is linked to Mitton Hall. The Emporium which is a design store, coffee shop and bar encased can be located in what was historically a huge Methodist Chapel steeped with character it is definitely worth a visit.

A variety of information on walks, and local tourist information recommendations including local brewers and farm shops can be requested from reception.

If you wish to participate in something more active such as hot air ballooning, clay pigeon shooting, fishing, golfing just let us know and our experienced on-site staff can assist with reservations.
